After spending the whole year sliding down a fairly structured descending channel, it is possible that the Aussie will start its shift upwards. We will be watching for momentum to change or consolidate in the coming days.

Technical Analysis

  • As prices broke out of the descending channel, we saw daily momentum shift to the upside. As a result, weekly downside momentum is now slowing.
  • The upward reversal started close to a weekly demand zone (at 0.700). Currently, this demand zone appears to be in control.

Commitment of Traders data

  • ‘Non-commercial’ net positions have decreased from net Short 73.2k contracts (on 9 October 18) to 59.2k contracts currently.
  • It is possible that we are seeing a move away from the bullish extreme so any further movements downwards is possible but may be short lived.
